Description Guillaume APOSTOLY 2002-06-10 08:48:26 UTC
Hi!
This is my first try to make an ebuild. This package is the driver for the Bewan
PCI st modem. Please do not use till the package is not in beta state.
For now this is for testing purpose only.
Still, the package seems to work, and includes the sources you can find at
http://www.bewan.com.
I'm not the maintener of the driver, but you can tell me if you have problems with
the packaging part of this driver.
The final goal would be that the ebuild checks that you have all needed atm and
ppp dependencies and that the kernel modules needed are present.

I'm doing the alpha1 version wich is better integrated. What must i do so that
emerge rsync gives me the package and i can try the full installation process
for someone who doesn't have anything before typing emerge bewan-pci-st ?

ignore the alpha0 try, now user the alpha1 that does everything needed for the
install (except checking dependencies, this is the next step).
Thanks to e-mail me at guillaume@apostoly.com to let me know how to get the
package listed from emerge rsync. I think someone has to validate something,
but I don't know who and what !!

Guillame,

Is this package usable yet? If not, it seems rather pointless to add this into
the portage tree, no?
Comment 5 Guillaume APOSTOLY 2003-03-02 06:31:10 UTC
Some news:
The problem is that it's not possible to provide a good package for this driver, because there's always one or another incompatibility with what is provided by Bewan. By example : for the moment, i'm had to stay to modutils 2.4.19 because after that, the driver module is no more loadable...
I'm in contact with th developer from bewan that unofficially develop the driver and will provide a "decent" ebuild when it's possible.
If you don't like to leave such requests opened, you can just delete this, i'll recreate it after.
Regards,

Guillaume.

could you make an ebuild for a current version?

bewan-adsl-0.8.7.ebuild

The latest bewan-adsl PCI&USB st drivers. Tested (at ebuild level of course,
since I do not have such devices) with both kernel 2.4 and 2.6.
