Description Vladimir 2011-03-06 10:23:05 UTC
After upgrading from the sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.35-r5 to sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.37-r1 by screen blinks every minute or so.
I use Nouveau driver and I have found the following information in one of the Google groups threads (
http://groups.google.com/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/e8dc2d1855925bee/dffccca40d8841cf?lnk=gst&q=613571#dffccca40d8841cf ):
"I have discovered that the culprit is upowerd which queries the
         following file:
         /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0/drm/card0/card0-TV-1/status
Querying this file by hand makes the screen flicker."

So I tried to access this file on my machine and this does cause the screen blinking.
People also report this problem is present in 2.6.36 kernel also.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.37-r1
2. start the system with NVidia videocard using the Nouveau driver
3. execute the command:
        cat /sys/devices/pci0000\:00/0000\:00\:01.0/0000\:01\:00.0/drm/card0/card0-TV-1/status

and see how the screen blinks.

Does a bug report on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ exist already?

Please work with the upstream bug. I will monitor and backport any fixes that present themselves.
