You might need KDE 4.6 for that. Which KDE version do you have? (In reply to comment #1) > You might need KDE 4.6 for that. Which KDE version do you have? > Version xfce4 :-) . I only use k3b and kstars from KDE. The kdelibs and kdebase-runtime-meta both indicate version 4.4.5, which I believe is the current stable one. But the messages printed out when the k3b ebuild was installed urged me to avoid hal. Those forum topics seem to be related: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-863357.html http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-814818.html http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-858965.html Afair, k3b with kdelibs+solid <= 4.5 still needs hal. Since you don't use KDE, you could probably keyword the KDE libraries and use 4.6. > Afair, k3b with kdelibs+solid <= 4.5 still needs hal. Since you don't use KDE,

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried keywording the kdelibs but that seems to require some conflicting dependencies. My solution was to give up on k3b and install the bashburn instead, which works just fine.
I would like to suggest that the ebuild for k3b should require hal to be installed.
(In reply to comment #4) > I would like to suggest that the ebuild for k3b should require hal to be > installed. Since it works without HAL when using the KDE libraries (solid) from 4.6, depending on HAL is counterproductive. I can't speak for the Gentoo KDE team, but this bug will probably remain open until KDE 4.6 gets stabilized. Your observation is 100% correct. In your case kdelibs-4.4 requires hal (and not k3b). Insofar, that's not really a bug, more a missing feature of kdelibs-4.4. |
