I'm closing this because it's probably invalid. I checked the dependency graph for 'cln' using: equery g cln * Searching for cln ... * dependency graph for sci-libs/cln-1.3.1 `-- sci-libs/cln-1.3.1 x86 `-- dev-libs/gmp-5.0.1 (dev-libs/gmp) ~x86 `-- virtual/latex-base-1.0 (virtual/latex-base) x86 [ sci-libs/cln-1.3.1 stats: packages (3), max depth (0) ] I then checked dev-libs/gmp and virtual/latex-base: emerge -pv virtual/latex-base These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] dev-libs/gmp-5.0.1 USE="-nocxx" 0 kB Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB As you can see, all the dependent packages for virtual/latex-base had not yet been compiled. Also, I considered that gmp might need to be re-compiled due to switching from gcc-4.4.4 to gcc-4.5.2 and the upgrade of glibc as well. I emerged both the indicated packages. 'cln' then compiled to completion. I suspect that it's the re-compilation of gmp which led to success. For anyone interested further in this scenario: I performed a 3rd stage install onto an x86 system. I updated /etc/make.conf to reflect my desire to use '~x86' {unstable} instead of 'x86' {stable}. I performed: emerge -e world to upgrade all packages. This obviously included gcc, glibc and the toolchain. A total of 128 packages were upgraded/re-installed. I finished updating /etc/make.conf with my final desired USE settings and other settings as well and performed an associated 'emerge -uND world'. I temporarily added settings to /etc/portage/package.use in order to break circular dependencies. This resulted in the installation/re-installation of about 440 packages. Once these updates were finished, I removed the temporary USE settings above and did another associated 'emerge -uND world'. This resulted in another installation/re-installation of about 80 packages. At this point, I probably should have done 'emerge -e system' in order to finalize the toolchain and associated packages which I believe would have picked up 'gmp'. I then set up my list of my common final packages and kicked of their emerge. The emerge process halted as noted above. Resolution as noted. |
