I have virtual/mysql-5.1, dev-db/mysql-init-scripts-2.0_pre1-r1 and dev-db/mariadb-5.1.50 Just made downgrade to dev-db/mysql-init-scripts-1.2 - all works fine # /etc/init.d/mysql restart * Starting ... * Starting (/etc/mysql/my.cnf) [ ok ] Solution for now is to uncomment rc_provide="mysql" line in mysql conf. same problem here. dev-db/mysql-5.1.53 dev-db/mysql-init-scripts-2.0_pre1-r1
