The crash seems not to mind any of my activities, and occurs with a frequency of one every few days.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:




I'll attach the relevant dmesg snippet (don't mind the nepomuk crashing. It's what it does best).

error log for random xserver crash

It appeared that  mouse movement was the cause. I had been trying to find a reason for the crash
as I suspected that xastir may have been the cause,I was using ax25 with a baycom modem
to log traffic on our local net. On advice from another source I dispensed from ax25
repaired my tnc2 mfj and was running that in tnc mode. Today the system had been running
for around 2.5 hrs when the crash occurred,and had been trxing all that time. Was 
only when mouse moved that the crash occured. I can restart X again and the screen will be ok.
so although I can't remove xasitr from the causes it seems unlikely.

You might want to try with a newer version of ati-drivers there is 10.12 in the main portage tree and i hope 11.1 will be bumped soon

@Geoff your xorg log is using radeon, is that the right one?

Yes that is correct,I gave up on the ati drivers and use xf86-video-ati.
I can confirm that the problem in my case is restricted to the AMD64 & transmitting of either the tnc or my baycom modem running under ax25,or kiss mode
As far as the laptop is concerned there is not a problem as its PIII 32 bit machine, I am at present building up my original Athlon machine also 32 bit as I have fitted a 500G hdd updated the bios,but as you can see it's a long process, been all day rebuilding the @world,then will have to install kde which will probably be another 3 days,both my laptop and the Athlon are 1100Mhz machines,whereas the 64 bit machine is 3200Mhz, really makes a difference when compiling.

PS I am at present also running 2.6.36-r5 but will be updating to 2.6.37-r1/2 shortly. The laptop is also running 2.3.36-r5 and there have been no hassles as far as crashes are concerned,I run identical systems on all my machines.

Geoff this bug is for ati-drivers, aka fglrx, not the open source radeon driver, if you run radeon, pls open another bug. Cheers

Is this still valid?

x11-drivers/ati-drivers-10.11 are no longer in the tree and since the oldest version is 13.1_something I presume it's not there for quite some time now.
