Description Dave Andruczyk 2003-12-03 17:40:05 UTC
Attempting to boot the 1.4RC4 cdrom dies when "gentoo-smp" is selected at the SILO: prompt.
the error is "Illegal instruction" and throw me back to the "Ok" Prompt.

the stad "gentoo" choice boots up OK, but of course only uses 1 CPU. (which makes the stage 1 emerge take twice as long)

System is a Sun Ultra 60, 2x360 Mhz UltraSparc2 CPU's, dual Elite-3D framebuffers, 512MB ram.

Did you try the rc5 LiveCD?
Comment 2 Jason Wever (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-06 08:33:00 UTC
The gentoo-sparc64-1.4_rc5 ISO image should fix this problem. Please test and report back if/when you get a chance.

The new RC5 CD boots the SMP kernel properly now. Tested on a Sun Ultra 60 with dual 360Mhz processors and 512 megs of ram.

On a lighter note: after the "Gentoo Linux: http://www.gentoo.org" message during init, your copyright message only goes from 2001-2002. Isn't this 2003, soon to be 2004?

Thanks for testing.

Weeve, change the Copyright :)

IMO we should remove the < rc5 LiveCD's from the Mirrors.
