SWAT of samba 3.4.9 (stable) & 3.5.6 (testing) fails in the default xinetd configuration.
In /etc/xinetd.d/swat you have to change
only_from       = localhost
to
only_from       = 127.0.0.1
(and of of course set "disable = no", which is probably by intention and no bug)
Maybe this is due to /etc/hosts entries like:
127.0.0.1       pc2.lan pc2 localhost
