Bus error? Give 'emerge info' output. If this is a permanent error I wont ~sparcify it. emerge info looks as follows (if there's anything completely stupid in there, please tell me): Portage 2.0.49-r18 (default-sparc64-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1, 2.4.23-sparc) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.23-sparc sparc64 sun4u Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.10p1 ccache version 2.2 [enabled] ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="sparc ~sparc" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -pipe" CHOST="sparc-unknown-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=ultrasparc -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache sandbox userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.inode.at http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="sparc X aalib avi berkdb cdr crypt cups encode fbcon foomaticdb gdbm gif gpm gtk imlib jpeg kde libwww mad mikmod motif mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis oss pam pdflib perl png python qt readline sdl slang spell ssl tcltk tcpd tetex truetype xml2 xmms xv zlib" the "bus error" thing seems to be reproducable, just tried again. mlnet+gui gives the following output on the console where it was started: Your system supports 1024 file descriptors Bus error and then the console returns. running first mlnet, then mlguistarter gives first the "start the gui?" question box, then, upon clicking OK, returns to console with "Fatal error: out-of-bound access in array or string". trying to run mlnet and then starting mlgui directly leads to the same message as above with mlnet+gui. but the pure daemon (with www and telnet frontend) works nicely. hmmmm. What version of gtk+ are you using? And please attach a strace of mldonkey showing the bus error :) I'll try to reproduce it later when I'm at home. 1024 file descriptors sounds awfully low... What's cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max say? If it's low, try echoing something big into it. re ciaranm: eyesun root # cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max 25492 is that low or not? 'cos I don't know whether it is .. re bazik: eyesun root # epm -q gtk+ gtk+-1.2.10-r10 gtk+-2.2.2-r1 will attach the strace later .. Created attachment 21678 [details]
strace of bus error
Hrm, for me, mlnet or mldonkey by itself buss errors, but mlnet+gui launches fine. Doesn't work well for me either. mlnet dies after some minutes of heavy traffic with bus error also. did some long term testing .. mlnet on its own (with telnet interface) dies after a few days with: Fatal error: out-of-bound access in array or string so .. all in all it doesn't seem to work well, does it? anyway, it works, in a way .. i.e. downloaded quite a bit of stuff with it .. Closing as WONTFIX for now, because it seems it's pretty unstable. Please reopen if future versions will run without crashing.
