In X or on the console or both?
With KMS or UMS or both?
Do the usual measures to address flickering (DisplayPriority option in xorg.conf, lowering refresh rate, ...) have any effect?

Please attach dmesg and Xorg.0.log output after flickering happens.
Comment 2 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2010-12-21 14:28:20 UTC
Attach dmesg, Xorg.0.log, emerge --info and .config file from latest gentoo-sources which is 2.6.36-r5 at this momment.

It happens in X and console with KMS. It's sort of color flickering it's not a sync fault I think and it happens once in 5-10 seconds. A have no manual xorg.conf, just fresh installed system. It also happens with systemrescuecd (based on gentoo and with 2.6.35 kernel)

emerging x11-libs/libdrm-2.4.23 and x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati-6.13.2 do not solve this problem. Works stable only with <=gentoo-sources-2.6.34*

I've disabled kms with radeon.modeset=0 in grub and now it works stable on gentoo-sources-2.6.36-r5

Can you open a bug upstream at freedesktop.org and post the url back here?
