There is no vmware-workstation-7.1.X on portage. If this is from an external overlay please contact the maintainers of that overlay Comment on attachment 256211 [details]

Have removed overlay vmware and downgraded to the in tree version app-emulation/vmware-workstation-6.5.4.246459 The result is completely the same and I get again the message "Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to" Created attachment 256246 [details]

vmware.log from the virtual machine directory
Look in the directory when the actual vm is. You will most likely see .lck files there. Delete them and that should fix the issue You are right there are two directories with the extension 'lck' I have deleted both, unfortunately the error has not changed and is still preventing me from powering on the virtual machines. Today I have updated the system with the packages listed within the package.lst attachment. After update and a system reboot the vmware virtual machines are able to boot. So I do not know exactly what is happen, but now all virtual machines are working well and it seams that the problem is not longer harming me. Created attachment 256306 [details]
