Description Joseph 2010-11-17 17:00:45 UTC
I've downloaded the latest minimal AMD64 ISO and they will not boot my AMD Athlon 64 processor 3800
I've tried:
install-amd64-minimal-20101111.iso
install-amd64-minimal-20101007.iso

The system start booting and stops at:
Looking for the cdrom
...
Attempting to mount media: - /dev/hda

This system boots OK older ISO AMD64 - 2008 but not the latest ISO.
It seems to me I am not the only one having this problem.
What kind of junk are you folks putting together???

Reproducible: Always

I believe your issue is already addressed in bug #252635.
Comment 2 Panagiotis Christopoulos (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-11-17 18:01:01 UTC
First of all, please try to boot the cd with options like scandelay=30 or nodetect or debug *, to see what is going on and/or when the cd fails to continue.
Second, please give us more information about your hardware. Nobody can help you, with the information you already gave us. If you can, paste your emerge --info, lspci and fdisk -l output (if you already have a working system on your machine) it would be great, or if you can't , report briefly your hardware.

It is possible that this is duplicate of bug #295052 . I resolve this bug as needinfo. Please reopen, only if you have submitted more information and we will process it accordingly.

* or other options, including "boot: gentoo-nofb <options> "
Comment 3 Panagiotis Christopoulos (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-11-17 18:03:54 UTC
Also tell us how you 're trying to boot the cd. Via an IDE cdrom, a sata, a USB?

Also try the "ide=nodma" option.
Comment 4 Joseph 2010-11-17 20:37:24 UTC
Apology I wasn't able to post more info previously. My motherboard failed so I got a temp. one and was not able to boot on my own; but now almost all is working.
Though, I can still not boot latest minimal AMD64 ISO

I'm booting via IDE cdrom, just by pressing enter.
As well I've tried gentoo kernel with options:
- scandelay=30
- nodetect
- ide-nodma
- bug 252635 does not help, trying to boot with option: "gentoo noload=pata_qdi" does not help.
system is still halting at the same point.

Though, "gentoo debug *" gave me this info:
/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

Here is additional information:

Can you guys provide any clues?
I don't know what to do here.
Comment 8 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2011-06-13 22:36:53 UTC
Please try booting with noapic nolapic
Let us know if anything is different.

There's nothing we can do without the requested input.

I tried it:
gentoo noapic nolapic

the system hangs after:
