Description Michał Wiernowolski 2010-11-14 21:12:52 UTC
I have a Lexmark Prevail Pro705 printer, which has worked correctly. I've been using original Lexmark drivers for debian based distributions. It stopped working correctly some time ago, unfortunately I am not sure when, because it was not used lately (my guess is late summer).

Specifically it means that the printer fails to print most of the time. Sometimes after restarting cups it prints OK. The printer fails with "Printer Error. The printer cannot communicate with the computer." I tried to debug the problem and it seems that the custom Lexmark backend (lxnet) crashes. Note that I am using wireless connections.

I've installed newer drivers (lexmark-inkjet-09-driver-1.5-1.i386.deb.sh.tar.gz), which can be found at
http://www1.lexmark.com/products/view/All-in-Ones/Lexmark-Prevail-Pro705/catId=cat10004-category&prodId=5471-product
upgraded the firmware and also tried newer cups without success.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Print anything on the Lexmark printer
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Printer Error. The printer cannot communicate with the computer.

Expected Results:
A couple of printer pages

We can't really help you with these debian packages... there are too many things that might go wrong.

Please check if the printer is supported by any of the open source packages.

If not- you could open a bug asking for a gentoo package of the driver. Given the amount of outstanding requests and the understaffing of the printing team, I dont see much hope though...
