Description pavel sanda 2010-10-03 19:30:00 UTC
after upgrading from 6.13.1 to 6.13.2 my terminals became much slower when rendering text and when moving with cursor.
is this report on gentoo or should I directly go to upstream?

Reproducible: Always

emerge --info please. Which version of libX11 and X are you using?

My terminals were slow at one point after upgrading to 6.13.2. It doesn't seem reproducible.

I've also been experiencing some graphics corruption after upgrading. It's most reproducible in nedit, just opening nedit and typing a few characters results in very visible corruption due to the cursor not being completely erased when it moves.

xorg-server 1.9.0.901
libX11 1.3.6
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV710 954F) 20090101 TCL DRI2
OpenGL version string: 2.0 Mesa 7.8.2

Hi,
Could you try latest 1.9 xorg + xf86-video-ati-6.14.1 with KMS enabled?
It should magically cure all your issues (it did for me :P).
Comment 6 pavel sanda 2011-04-12 13:10:07 UTC
the relevant bug in xorg bugzilla is still opened so i dont believe upgrade is going to do anything else than to collapse my system. since its almost impossible to downgrade back due to droppped ebuilds i'll stick to my current setup.

feel free to wontfix the bug.
Comment 7 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-20 22:00:45 UTC
Hm rather could you add the xorg bugzilla link here to URL field. KTHX
Comment 9 pavel sanda 2011-04-20 22:05:07 UTC
erm to url field ;)
Comment 10 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-20 22:09:08 UTC
To be honest i don't want to close the bug cause I have the same issue. :D
Comment 11 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-04-20 22:09:55 UTC
Btw that sluggish behaviour is not that bad so it could not be used :)
Comment 12 pavel sanda 2011-04-20 22:12:25 UTC
really depends. i lost smooth scrolling on terminal which is quite important
to quick peeking of the various listings etc.
Comment 13 Peter 2012-01-02 16:02:23 UTC
xf86-video-ati 6.14.3
xorg-server 1.11.2-r2
mesa 7.11.2

KDE is usable with desktop effects turned off, but its kind of ridiculous that its so slow. I mean my thinkpad has faster 3d.

I've tried classic and gallium:

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 (R420 4B4C) x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL DRI2
OpenGL version string: 1.5 Mesa 7.11.2

Comment 14 jannis 2014-01-25 12:56:35 UTC
Is this still an issue or can it be closed? 6.13.2 is still in tree but there are newer versions marked stable for all arches that 6.13.2 is stable for.
Comment 15 pavel sanda 2014-01-25 19:32:45 UTC
not fixed, but certainly can be closed as wontfix, 6.13.1 (the version which worked) is not in tree anymore.
Comment 16 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2015-02-22 02:14:59 UTC
There's not really anything Gentoo developers can do to solve this. Please file a bug upstream https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=DRI if the problem persists.
