this is not how porting applications to gnome3 is supposed to be done. I suggest you visit upstream IRC channels and talk to them to see how to contribute about that.
For the gentoo side of things, you adding code that is not using the eclass so user preferences might be completely ignored.

I'm closing this invalid as this is mostly work that needs to happen upstream and we are not including "feature" patch like this.
