Bug 33590 – The kernel on experimental LiveCD livecd-2.6_11-13-2003.iso lacks support for LVM

I decided to install Gentoo Linux with the 2.6-kernel
using the experimanetal LiveCD livecd-2.6_11-13-2003.iso.
My goal is to install it on a bootable disk that is completely
managed by LVM. So I created a partition with type 0x8e.
The I ran the command 'pvcreate /dev/discs/disc0/part1', which resulted in:
"pvcreate -- ERROR: "/etc/lvmtab" doesn't exist; please run vgscan".
So I ran the command 'vgscan -v', but this resulted in:
"vgscan -- LVM driver/module not loaded?".

Searching around on the LiveCD didn't produce any LVM modules.
So this was the end of the line for me.
Now I'm going to give the official 1.4 LiveCD release a try.

Yup, looks like this 2.6 CD still has the old LVM1 tools on it. Devicemapper seems to be on in the kernel, which is correct for LVM2, but the userland tools are incorrect.

The livecd dated 20031120 has lvm2 on it, and it works quite happily for me.

LiveCD dated 11-29-2003 cannot setup an LVM device. I'm getting following message: 
"Incomaptible libdevmapper 1.00.05-ioctl-cvcs and kernel driver"

Looks like the userland tools are not ready for the 2.6 kernel series.
