You should be able to run the curl test suite just fine without any Internet connection. You do need networking enabled in the kernel, of course, so that connections to localhost will work. It looks like there's another problem at work here, like a compile issue. You shouldn't be seeing any "Illegal instruction" messages. What if you disabled valgrind during the tests?
