I'm not sure if modemmanager will work with: CONFIG_LEGACY_PTYS=y CONFIG_LEGACY_PTY_COUNT=32 Let me test it and get back to you. This is still occurs with net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.2 Still occurring with net-misc/networkmanager-0.8.2-r1 For fun I changed CONFIG_LEGACY_PTYS to no and recompiled, it solved the issue.
