Description Shoan Motwani 2003-11-13 02:55:55 UTC
I am attempting to install gentoo from stage1. But during bootstrapping, I
notice error like "file not found" aparrently pointing at a missing /sbin/depscan.sh

I extracted the stage1 tarball to a temp location and looked for depscan.sh and
found a syn link of it /etc/init.d/depscan.sh -> ../../sbin/depscan.sh.

But depscan.sh does not exist in /sbin. Is this a bug?

Peace,
Shoan.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.extract stage1
2.cd /usr/portage
3.scripts/bootstrap.sh

Actual Results:
I get a file not found after every emerge

Expected Results:
similiar output of env_update

I too recieve this bug. I am using the x86 gentoo live cd x86-basic-1.4-20030911.iso.

I get this w/ both the rc5 and the 20031119 sparc64 tarballs
Comment 3 Nick Cuccia 2003-12-12 13:29:10 UTC
Same problem with 1.4_rc5 sparc stage1 tarballs.

My workaround was to do:

    # cp -p /sbin/depscan.sh /mnt/gentoo/sbin/depscan.sh

right after copying /etc/resolv.conf into /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf.

Things seem to be working better after doing that.

While installing stage1-sparc-1.4-rc5 followed by portage-20031227.tar.bz2, I ran
ran into the same thing (installing to a ss20/m4). I've applied Nick Cuccia's fix
and the bootstrap.sh script is running nicely--so far it's announced
"regenerating etc/ld.so.cache ...caching service dependencies" successfully
twice, and is now happily compiling/merging the sys-devel/gettext package.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
