How to reproduce:
1. Enable 'hggit=' in your ~/.hgrc file. Maybe need to enable other extensions, I'm not sure.
2. Try running 'hg push' to push your changes to a remote repository. If you need one, try using bitbucket.org or set-up your own using "hgwebdir.cgi".
3. Type your login information, as requested by the remote repository.
4. BANG! Exception!

dev-vcs/mercurial-1.4.1

dev-lang/python-2.6.5-r3

Does this problem occur with >=dev-vcs/mercurial-1.6.3?

No, it doesn't. So... ask for mercurial-1.6.3 stabilization? (which will also fix a bug related to latest python version/revision)
