Description Marco Clocchiatti 2010-08-14 08:20:30 UTC
Updating vmware to 2.0.2.203138-r1 version I found this 3 issues:

1) emerge --config vmware-server does not work.
    simple workaround:
    run /opt/vmware/server/bin/vmware-config.pl -skip-stop-start
this issue is documented from a long time, for example, here:
    http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-805348-start-0.html

2) look at this:

s939 64-bit # /opt/vmware/server/bin/vmware-config.pl -skip-stop-start

This program previously created the file /dev/vmnet0, and was about to remove
it. Somebody else apparently did it already.

You have already setup networking.

Would you like to skip networking setup and keep your old settings as they are?
(yes/no) [yes]

Please specify a port for remote connections to use [902]

The port you chose is not available for use. Please select another port value.

Please specify a port for remote connections to use [902] ^C

the problem on port 902 depends from vmware-authd, which is started by
xinetd. this is vary annoying. may be usefull a warning in the ebuild.

3) after solving above problem, vmware service was not starting. this was dependig from /etc/vmware/not_configured file, not removed automatically.

also this issue should be fixed with a worning or with some other solution in pkg_setup.

Reproducible: Always
