From a maintainers view: synaptics hasn't changed much from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2 (as can be seen here http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-synaptics/log/?h=synaptics-1.2-branch ) It's fine with me, as its the latest recommend version. Please consider xf86-input-synaptics-1.3.0 for stabilization, as xorg-server-1.9.0 goes stable now (bug 344827). While it is not strictly necessary to have xf86-input-synaptics-1.3.0 stable for xorg-server-1.9.0, this version enables input device autoconfiguration.
