This is a known and fixed regression in the 2.6.34 kernel.  The last comment points to the commit in Linus' tree (http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=b27759f880018b0cd43543dc94c921341b64b5ec).  I have patched my kernel with this and tested that it works properly.  It would be nice to have the gentoo-sources include this patch until the 2.6.35 kernel comes out.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get an HP 8540w laptop
2. build the most recent gentoo-sources on the machine
3. run the kernel

Actual Results:  
acpid takes 100% of one CPU!

Expected Results:  
Almost no noticeable time spent by acpid.

Please check the latest kernels in the tree (2.6.34-r4 and 2.6.35-r1 at the moment).  They should have this patch already.
