Bug 33148

Summary: ck-sources kernel corrupts big files ( > 50 MB) when copying/moving/downloading

Component: [OLD] Core systemAssignee: x86-kernel (DEPRECATED) <x86-kernel>

Description Leander 2003-11-10 06:57:34 UTC
When I download files which size is approximatively higher than 50 MB (didn't
take time to make many tests to find when it begins to occur), those ones are
corrupted, each time with a different md5 sum. The problem also occurs when I
copy/move big files on my hard drive, the md5 sum of the file changes everytime,
and the file is randomly corrupted. The file system is "innocent", I had this
problem with both e3fs and fat32.

The problem does not occur with a 2.6 kernel.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Using: sys-kernel/ck-sources-2.4.22-r2
on an Athlon XP 2000+
Matsonic 8137C with VIA KT266 chipset
IDE hard drives: Quantum Fireball 13 GB and Maxtor 120 GB

Does this occur with other 2.4 series kernels, preferably vanilla 2.4.22?
If so or if not, this is upstream and needs to go to the LKML / Con Kolivas...
Comment 2 Leander 2003-11-10 10:50:37 UTC
I just compiled a vanilla 2.4.22 to try to reproduce the bug, but it works
perfectly. Same goes with the kernel of the live cd (i tried with that one
yesterday but forgot to mention it in the report).

As I'm not very familiar with bug reporting, can you please indicate me which
steps to follow if I have things to do on my own?

Sure. Resolving as INVALID as this is upstream. To report kernel bugs send
off mail to the LKML, <lkml.org> for more info, but as this is not in the
vanilla kernel, I suggest you contact Con Kolivas: <kernel at kolivas dot
org> and he should handle it from there.
