Currently, the channel scaning packages like media-plugins/vdr-channelscan and media-plugins/vdr-reelchannelscan install both the plugin itself and the author-supplied transponder lists (doinsed manually). This has the disadvantage that the transponder lists can only be updated along with the plugin, and the final user gets a lot of outdated, PM-controlled files.

My idea is to add a new package, providing common transponder lists for these VDR plugins. The transponder lists would be updated from an independent source (satbeams.com currently, I've already asked the admin for permission and he granted it), and installed for both plugins at once. I suggest the name media-tv/vdr-transponder-lists.

That would require removing the transponder lists from 'install' phase of both plugins, and adding a RDEPEND on the transponder lists package. The only exception is the special sat.tpl file installed for vdr-reelchannelscan.

I'm attaching two patches to the Portage tree: the first one adds the 'transponder lists' package, and the second one updates plugin ebuilds. I'm also attaching the generated transponder lists tarball; I can provide a new one and/or the generating script on request.

I think the package is pretty VDR-specific (at least at the point).

oh oh, good ooold bug ;)

thanks for your improvment,

but

both plugins, media-plugins/vdr-channelscan and media-plugins/vdr-reelchannelscan
are shortly removed from the tree due several issues

anyway,

fabulous VDR needs only a initial channel and do complete the channels.conf by its self.
There was/is/will_be never needed an external plugin ;)
