Can something be made to activate the getpass_asterisks in shadow package in order to get asterisks when using agetty & su and other stuff like that? I cannot figure out why in gentoo doesn't work coz afaik it's active default.

i dunno about it being the default ... every linux box ive ever logged into
has not used the asterix feature ...

from the shadow NEWS:

- GETPASS_ASTERISKS now run time configurable (login.defs)
