patch for 10.7

works for me, HD3650, amd64.
Comment 2 niogic 2010-07-27 13:46:09 UTC
Works for me too, just rename the ebuild and I removed the 2.6.34 patch because it won't compile.
I'm using 2.6.34 and could load the driver with xorg-1.8 without even setting the IgnoreABI flag on.

So there's official support.

I'm using compiz and some windows appear black. This looks like a bug. For the rest, it's working (also 3d).
Comment 3 niogic 2010-07-27 14:05:09 UTC
I found the black rectangles problem in a forum thread: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6365817.html

Those having black box artifacts with catalyst please check this page
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst#Catalyst_10.6.2F10.7_:_black.2Fgrey.2Fwhite_boxes.2Fartifacts_in_firefox.2Fthunderbird
Though this is not related to this particular bug

Thanks.

That may be not related but this is (at least as a dependency of this bug):
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst#Black.2Fgrey.2Fwhite_boxes.2Fartifacts_mainly_in_firefox.2Fthunderbird

Is our xorg-server patched like that for maximise/minimize with old XAA?
Or did the patch made into 1.8.2 official?

Working fine here, but amdcccle tells me, that I am using Catalyst-Version 10.6!?!
What could be wrong here?
Comment 7 Vladimir Berezhnoy 2010-07-28 15:22:10 UTC
Looks like this is a bug in amdcccle. It says aboyt 10.5 in my case.
Comment 8 Lukas Elsner 2010-07-28 17:41:01 UTC
Yes, but VLC is unable to use the driver for Video Rendering. This should be implemented in 10.7. So i am afraid that it is using 10.6 for any reason...

Catalyst 10.7 works fine for me, too. I had to shutdown X and remove the file /etc/ati/amdpcsdb to let amdcccle show the correct version. As a workaround for the black-box-bug I had to execute the command 'aticonfig --set-pcs-str=DDX,ForceXAA,TRUE'.

Deleted /etc/ati/amdpcsdb, still 10.6 showing in amdcccle. :(

Did activating XAA decrease your 2D performance?

The version string is stored in amdpcsdb. It is a text file. You can search for it using the key Catalyst_Version. Maybe you must remove the module fglrx first before deleting the file or replacing it with the new amdpcsdb.default.

The 2D performance under XAA ist not worse than its was using ati-drivers-10.6.
The new ATI 2D Acceleration Architecture performs better but seems still buggy. Anyway I can use now xorg-server.1.8.

Hmm, strangely I am not getting any of the problems mentioned here (aside from the wrong version number in the control center) however has anyone noticed that the window resizing problem is back when you're running an application such as VirtualBox? I just reverted back to 10.6 and the problem is gone so it's obviously something with 10.7.

Just curious to see if anyone else has run into this problem as well, I'll probably report it on ATIs forums later today.

10.7 is in main tree.
