dmesg output
The DVD is encrypted. Ensure that USE="css" is enabled for the relevant packages. If it still does not work, try another media player such as mplayer. (In reply to comment #2) > The DVD is encrypted. USE=css is set, according to `emerge --info', so it should be set for media-libs/libdvdread. We'll need more output - please exit totem and run it manually from a shell, then see what its output says. ... and reopen the bug report after that. Hi Unfortunatly totem prints nothing on the terminal. However, I tried with MPlayer and it worked. I don't think it's a totem problem, even with Brasero Burner does not see an inserted disc. With an audio cd there's no problem. Please try with totem-2.30.2 (you can get gnome-2.30 keywording lists from bug 324077), I watched "Inglourious Basterds" just past week and totem played it just fine Please paste output of emerge -pv media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta media-libs/gst-plugins-ugly media-plugins/gst-plugins-a52dec media-plugins/gst-plugins-dvdread media-plugins/gst-plugins-mpeg2dec-0.10 media-plugins/gst-plugins-resindvd Hi Sorry for answering late. I upgraded to gnome 2.30, but with the new Totem doesn't work, it's the same problem as the previous version. You still didn't report what was asked in comment #8, so we can't help you till then: Please paste output of emerge -pv gst-plugins-meta gst-plugins-ugly gst-plugins-a52dec gst-plugins-dvdread gst-plugins-mpeg2dec gst-plugins-resindvd Hi Here is the output of emerge: [ebuild R ] media-libs/gst-plugins-ugly-0.10.13 USE="-debug" 994 kB [ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-a52dec-0.10.13 0 kB [ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-dvdread-0.10.13 0 kB [ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-mpeg2dec-0.10.13 0 kB [ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-resindvd-0.10.18 0 kB [ebuild R ] media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta-0.10-r4 USE="X a52 alsa dvd esd ffmpeg flac mad mpeg ogg theora vorbis xv -dvb -lame -mythtv -oss -pulseaudio -taglib -v4l -v4l2" 0 kB that looks good to me, maybe can also check this: emerge -vp libdvdread libdvdnav Hi Here is the output: [ebuild R ] media-libs/libdvdread-4.1.3_p1168 USE="css" 94 kB [ebuild R ] media-libs/libdvdnav-4.1.3_p1168 0 kB What errors do you get when running: totem dvd:///dev/sr0 ? Hi Here is what I got: (totem:12780): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed (totem:12780): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed ** Message: Error: No URI set gstplaybin2.c(3446): setup_next_source (): /GstPlayBin2:play Maybe gstreamer team will know better what does that error mean :-/ It might mean such a device doesn't exist... For me there's no /dev/sr0 for my DVD for instance, most should have a /dev/dvd that symlinks to the right device (hda for my case), so maybe a better test would be totem dvd:///dev/dvd However, I think this should work fine (for testing): totem dvd:// Hi I tried both but I got the same nessage. I also used /dev/dvdrw /dev/disk but it is the same result Could you try with 2.32? (In reply to comment #19) > Could you try with 2.32? > I have also had trouble with totem for a while (doesn't play) and have been following this bug. I have 2.32 (~amd64) and just tried totem dvd:///dev/dvd. The result is (totem:5726): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed ** (totem:5726): WARNING **: chapters: failed to load CMML file dvd:///dev/dvd.cmml: The specified location is not supported same error for simply totem /dev/sr0 (which /dev/dvd points to). note that gnome-mplayer /dev/sr0 plays the movie Could you try on a new created user account? I have googled a bit looking for errors like yours and, in one case, seemed it was caused by a misconfiguration (In reply to comment #21) > Could you try on a new created user account? I have googled a bit looking for > errors like yours and, in one case, seemed it was caused by a misconfiguration > I created a new user and the result is the same. The dvd plays with gnome-mplayer but totem just gives a blank screen. Maybe running "totem --debug" could help (In reply to comment #23) > Maybe running "totem --debug" could help > The dvd player has a movie in it, which gnome-mplayer plays. gottlieb@ajglap ~ $ totem --debug dvd:// (totem:13961): Totem-DEBUG: Received SaveYourself(SmSaveLocal, !Shutdown, SmInteractStyleNone, !Fast) in state idle (totem:13961): Totem-DEBUG: Setting initial properties (totem:13961): Totem-DEBUG: Sending SaveYourselfDone(True) for initial SaveYourself (totem:13961): Totem-DEBUG: Received SaveComplete message in state save-yourself-done (totem:13961): Totem-DEBUG: totem_playlist_add_one_mrl (): Title 0 (null) (null) (totem:13961): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed ** (totem:13961): WARNING **: chapters: failed to load CMML file dvd://.cmml: The specified location is not supported Does the following work for you? gst-launch-0.10 playbin2 device://dev/dvd (In reply to comment #25) > Does the following work for you? > gst-launch-0.10 playbin2 device://dev/dvd > No, I get the following. gottlieb@ajglap ~ $ gst-launch-0.10 playbin2 device://dev/dvd Setting pipeline to PAUSED ... Freeing pipeline ... gottlieb@ajglap ~ $ This looks like a problem with gstreamer then :-/ Is this still an issue after all this time? If yes, then maybe gst-plugins-base-1.2.3 would help (together with 1.2.x gst-plugins-resindvd), as it fixed a case where DVD's, which ended up trying to play a section without audio first, wouldn't work at all. DVDFASTSTART=no in environment would likely have workarounded it in some cases, etc. http://thaytan.livejournal.com/9610.html https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603921 There were also some transcoding fixes off of DVDs in gstreamer-1.2.3 bump. I have been playing a DVD with Gnome 3.10 not so long ago but I have to re-read this report to ensure what was the exact use case. All of us have been able to play DVD's back in 2010 too. The issue seems to have been with the DVD the original reported used, or his setup. In light of the fixes I referenced, I hope he was affected by the "track/section without audio" bug and it is working good now. So trying to confirm if possible :) (In reply to Mart Raudsepp from comment #30) > All of us have been able to play DVD's back in 2010 too. So trying to confirm if possible :) I am not the original reporter, but also had the problem (comments 20,22,24, and 26). For me all is well now with media-vedio/totem-3.8.2-r1 and has been so for a while. |
