The title says it all really.
Occurs in sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.33-r2
Fraid im not much of a kernel hacker, so I cant provide much insight into why this occurs, but the email discussion linked might help.
Marked as minor since ACCEPT_LICENSE="freedist" USE="-deblob" provides a temporary workaround.

Steps to Reproduce:
make menuconfig
Device drivers>Networking (Gigabit)
Notice that Realtek 8169 is missing
