Adding the kde overlay (the only one) makes this command sequence much slower than expected. I'm wondering whether it is a general problem with overlays or only related to kde overlay.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. layman -a kde
2. time $command
3. layman -d kde
2. time $command

This is because kde overlay doesn't generates metadata.

This has nothing to do with eix. This behavior is normal 

Try to run egencache --repo=kde and you will see that eix is fast again
