I've just installed Gentoo on a new eee pc 1005 pe (atom n450 processor). I tried to upgrade gcc to 4.4.4. I did it 2 times (it takes a long time). Both times emerge failed, but in a different ways. The first time gcc-4.4.3-r2 encountered an internal compiler error. I have no full log of this run because PORTAGE_ELOG_SYSTEM and friends were not set. After setting them and re-trying (and waiting a long time), I got a different failure:

I had some random failures in other ebuilds, they were not reproducible. Seems to be a hardware problem. Sorry.
