portage debug output

portage debug output of command `PORTAGE_DEBUG=1 emerge -av1 python`
Comment 3 Arfrever Frehtes Taifersar Arahesis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-23 20:28:07 UTC
I completely uninstalled dev-lang/python:2.6 and I was able to install dev-lang/python-2.6.4-r1 without any problems.
Comment 4 Rajiv Aaron Manglani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-23 23:11:08 UTC
this box has only 2.4.x and 2.5.x also. upgrading 2.4.4-r14 to 2.4.6 didnt help.

could the issue be with Portage 2.1.6.13 ?
Comment 5 Rajiv Aaron Manglani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-24 01:04:59 UTC
on this broken box, notice this line:

>>> Preparing source in /var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/python-2.6.4-r1/work ...

on a working box, the install says:

>>> Preparing source in /var/tmp/portage/dev-lang/python-2.6.4-r1/work/Python-2.6.4 ...
Comment 6 Matus UHLAR - fantomas 2010-05-24 10:17:35 UTC
seems like python2.6* needed EAPI=2 which is only provided by python2.6*
Comment 7 Lance Albertson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-24 21:38:43 UTC
I've hit this bug at the OSUOSL and has left me unable to upgrade python on the rest of our machines. Please fix ASAP if possible!
Comment 8 Arfrever Frehtes Taifersar Arahesis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-05-25 17:55:48 UTC
The problem was caused by combination of 2 bugs in Portage:
- Portage wasn't properly handling EPYTHON variable.
  This bug was fixed in Portage >=2.1.7.1.

- Portage was ignoring exit status of filter-bash-environment.py.
  Failure of filter-bash-environment.py was causing that some variables
  (e.g. S) were empty.
  This bug is present in all released versions of Portage.
  I have fixed it in Portage:
http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/portage.git;a=commitdiff;h=451f102ad2e3bf62c9c6bdf5b1786c88352bad10

I have added a workaround in dev-lang/python ebuilds.

This is in 2.2_rc68, but I'll leave this bug open until it's in an unmasked version.
Comment 11 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2010-09-04 08:32:10 UTC
This is fixed in 2.1.9.
