Bug 320713

Summary: sys-block/gparted-0.4.5 configure fails with parted 2.2
Product: Gentoo Linux Reporter: YoungFrog <theonewiththeevillook>
Component: [OLD] GNOMEAssignee: Gentoo Linux Gnome Desktop Team <gnome>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: normal
Priority: High
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Whiteboard:
Package list:
Runtime testing required: ---

Description YoungFrog 2010-05-20 11:34:19 UTC
At one point, the configure script tries to determine the version of libparted, and does it like this:

if ( sscanf( ped_get_version(), "%d.%d.%d", &major, &minor, &micro ) == 3 )
{
printf( "Found libparted %s\t", ped_get_version() ) ;
return ! ((major > min_major) || ((major == min_major) && (minor > min_minor)) || ((major == min_major) && (minor == min_minor) && (micro >= min_micro))) ;
}

This does not work because ped_get_version() returns 2.2, which is not of the form major.minor.micro, hence sscanf returns 2 instead of 3.

(This looks easy to fix but as I'm no developer at all, so I just leave it up to someone-who-knows).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Emerge parted-2.2
2.Emerge gparted-0.4.5
3.Kaboom

Actual Results:
Kaboom :
checking for libparted >= 1.7.1... configure: error: *** Requires libparted >= 1.7.1. Perhaps development header files missing?

Expected Results:
Not kaboom.

When I saw your comment, I first thought "what ? he must be kidding". I even thought for a second that we had filed the same bug at the same time (which is not the case)

Really, I _did_ search before posting the bug (and also spent much time trying to understand what was causing the fail in order to have a useful report).
In my defence, #320621 is the last bug to show up in the search for "ALL gparted"... but ok, I should have at least read the titles of all bugs, which I obviously didn't do.

Anyway, I'm sorry for the noise. Thanks for the help.

no problem. This will all be solved when arches stabilize 0.5.2 anyway :)
