Will fail to build with gtk+>=2.17 due to an API change (specifically, GtkEntry->n_bytes and GtkEntry->text_size should be written as GtkEntry->x_n_bytes and GtkEntry->x_text_size wherever found). See URL for reference.

Patch submitted to fix problem in source, and ebuild patch submitted to utilize source patch

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build sci-electronics/geda-gattrib with gtk+-2.18.9 (tested) installed
2. Watch it fail to find variables
3.

Actual Results:  
Fails to build

Expected Results:  
Builds happily

Adjusted ebuild to only apply the patch when gtk+-2.17 or higher is installed (should not need patch for earlier versions if data in URL is correct).
