Summary: New portage suddenly marks gentoo-sources as N(ew)
Product: Portage Development Reporter: MAL <mal>
Component: UnclassifiedAssignee: Portage team <dev-portage>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID
Severity: normal
Priority: High
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Whiteboard:
Package list:
Runtime testing required: ---

Description MAL 2003-10-24 03:01:12 UTC
6 month old system, wants to upgrade gentoo-sources, but marks it as N(ew) in
emerge -puv world.

$ emerge -pP gentoo-sources

>>> These are the packages that I would unmerge:

 sys-kernel/gentoo-sources
    selected: 2.4.20-r5 2.4.20-r6
   protected: 2.4.20-r7
     omitted: none

$ emerge -puv world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
...
[ebuild  N    ] sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r8  -build +crypt -evms2 -aavm
-usagi -doc -tcltk
...

Just updated to the latest Portage, and it still does it.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Comment 1 Markus Nigbur (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 06:13:33 UTC
That's corretct. All kernel version are using a different slot. Earlier we
displayed a slot upgrade as UD, this got changed to N some time ago.
Comment 2 MAL 2003-10-24 06:30:25 UTC
Apologies for assuming this was a bug. Where was it announced?
Comment 3 Markus Nigbur (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-24 06:54:09 UTC
apparently those changes are only mentioned in the ChangLog
