I have found Xine's Mozilla Plugin to be a lot more reliable and easier than
mplayers.
I have not come across any problems in using it and I feel it does not get a lot
of press, because it's in GXine, thus not many people know about it.

Xine is a stable and tested backend.

I forgot to add that daily builds of the plugin are available at http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/
as a source rpm.

I'm not sure what you're asking for here.  Could you elaborate?  Are you asking for a new ebuild?
