Bug 316489 – sqlite-3.6.22-r2 has undefined symbol sqlite3_enable_load_extension

After installing sqlite-3.6.22-r2 with FEATURES="nostrip", various Ruby bindings which compiled C extensions against libsqlite3.so began to fail. This was due to the C extensions being unable to find the symbol "sqlite3_enable_load_extension" at runtime when libsqlite3.so was loaded.

After further inspection, I found that the symbol was not listed in symbols table in libsqlite3.so, but was listed in the sqlite3.h header file.

I believe this is due to SQLITE_API not being defined by autoconf. Typically, it should be defined as "extern". If sqlite3_enable_load_extension is part of libsqlite3's private API, then it should not be defined in the header file at all.

1. emerge sqlite
2. nm -D /usr/lib/libsqlite3.so.0.8.6 | grep sqlite3_enable_load_extension


Expected Results:  
The symbol is exposed.

I tracked this down to the "extensions" USE-flag for dev-db/sqlite not being enabled.
