Just a quick update. It seems that this one may be quite easy. To test it, I just copied the existing 6.5.3 ebuild to my local overlay and renamed it to the correct 6.5.4 version name. Then I renamed (or actually, just symlinked) the 6.5.3 files in the files directory. It upgraded perfectly and is currently running without any problems. This is for amd64 arch.
