libDevIL 1.7.8 was released about a year ago. I'm pretty sure there was some API breakage. I had some problems compiling programs against 1.7.8 but 1.7.7, I don't remember the details, it was a long time ago. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -pv =media-libs/devil-1.7.8




I'm going to submit an ebuild for this, just a bit busy atm...
