There is a parallel version of lzip:
http://www.nongnu.org/lzip/plzip.html
http://www.nongnu.org/lzip/lzip.html is needed to run.

I will attach ebuilds. Tested on amd64.

Can we get it into portage, please?

I'll take it since I'd use it to prove lzip is no good :D.

You'll find working ebuilds for newest versions in bleeding-edge overlay.

Too late, working ebuilds are already in 'gentoo' repository :).
