Description Pierre Colot 2003-10-13 13:57:23 UTC
This is redundant with bug 15445 : http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15445
but this documentation correction is announced to be corrected on 15-02-2003,
the status of 15445 is NEW and inside some of 23 mirrorselect related bugs,
the maintener, responsible for mirrorselect (and documentation ??), seems to
change.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I try to select a mirror automatically:
# mirrorselect -a -s4 -o >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf

This instruction failed during my first building of gentoo on a virgin system.
This building followed scenario stage-1. At last, I
understood the mirrorselect had to be emerged previously to
any mirrorselect usage after the initial bootstrap.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start on a virgin system
2.Boot on LiveCD gentoo-basic-1.4-20030806.iso
3.Apply scenario1 procedure
4.Try mirrorselect
Actual Results:
failed command and very low dowload band width usage

Expected Results:
multiple mirror selection

mirrorselect is a very usefull to download at full rate on a xDSL connection

Patch with a bit more info for mirrorselect

Mirrorselect doesn't need to be emerged as it is used before the chroot.
Some
LiveCDs contain mirrorselect, some don't. Some other installation media have
it
(esp. some existing gentoo installations), but most don't.

This patch adds a bit more information that mirrorselect doesn't always exist
and that you can safely ignore the section then.

If a docdev can review this patch?
