kernel 2.6.33-gentoo .config showing what is enabled in the kernel i am running.

Description Jonathan Throne 2010-03-21 23:17:07 UTC
I turn on and boot kernel 2.6.33-gentoo using xdm or slim login manager then either login as root or as a user and it will flash to the xfce4 rodent splash screen then back to slim/xdm login manager. I then proceed to tty3 stop xdm running on tty7. Then try and manual start xfwm4 which will crash aswell and have an output of:

XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 104 requests (104 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
xdm error (pid 2327): Server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly: 1

also xdm.log says:

FATAL SERVER ISSUE: exaGetPixmapFirstPixel called for invalid Bpp 1.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. have installed xorg-server 1.7.6, xf86-video-ati 6.12.192, mesa 7.8, pixman 0.17.2, and kernel 2.6.33-gentoo with kms enabled radeon driver and have radeon framebuffer disabled.
2. enable exa acceleration in xorg.conf
3. login as root or user, or start xfwm4 from cli.
Actual Results:
It will either flash to the desktop splash screen then back to xdm/slim or will go to cli after going to desktop splash..(xfce mouse).

Expected Results:
It should have brought me to the xfce desktop environment.

I had dbus, xdm, net.wlan0, syslog-ng, consolekit, hald, netmount,and vixie-cron running.

I am running the KEYWORD_ACCEPT="~amd64" system build on a hp dv7-1245dx laptop which has a:
turion x2 mobile rm-72, 4gb ram, amd780m/mn chipset with a integrated hd3200.

/etc/conf.d/xdm file showing my configurations for xdm.

The only thing i mess with this file is change DisplayManager="xdm" to ="slim" and vice-versa.

This is a bug which reportedly occurs with Xfce themes that contain 1x1 pixmaps with 1 bpp.
Comment 8 Jonathan Throne 2010-03-24 23:58:12 UTC
okay i figured it was an issue with i don't know how many themes from xfwm4-themes 4.6.0

the only way to fix this bug is to remove xfwm4-themes 4.6.0 or only use certain themes that don't crash xdm. Default theme doesn't crash but most others I have tried will. I am going to try a downloaded theme from xfce-look.org and see if that will do the trick!

i am still have issues even with xfwm4-themes uninstalled with a black background and no desktop image nor icons but i do have the tool bar this only happens in user login to xfce not root...with root login to xfce environment i am okay so far..!

Nothing for us to fix here, I've CCed myself on the upstream bug to track it.

Thanks
