I successfully tested the following configuration on a stable x86 system during the whole day:

media-libs/libmpdclient-2.1
media-sound/mpc-0.19  USE="iconv -bash-completion"

I have been using 0.19 on an amd64 machine for some time now. Solid as a rock, and 0.15 is seriously lacking on features.
