Description Joshua Barney 2010-03-13 03:06:31 UTC
Using the game minimizer ETSwitch (games-util/etswitch-0.1.14) in KDE causes the entire plasma desktop to crash simply by hovering the mouse over ETSwitch's entry in the taskbar. I'm guessing that Plasma is trying to make a thumbnail of ETSwitch, but ETSwitch being an app without a window, it fails.

One does not need to load up a game for ETSwitch to manage for this to happen.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start KDE4
2. Start ETSwitch
3. Hover mouse cursor over ETSwitch's taskbar entry

Actual Results:
The Plasma Desktop crashes, losing the application launcher, taskbar, system tray, wallpaper, etc.

Expected Results:
No crash.

Have you seen this also in kde-4.4.2?

I'm on kde-4.4.4 , and I have followed the "steps to reproduce", and I don't have that problem.

I don't know if this is a kde problem, or etswitch problem, but, if I try to launch etswitch from "MenuK -> games", etswitch is opened and inmediately closed.
If I launch etswith on a konsole (or yakuake), it works. And I can hover the mouse cursor over etswitch taskbar entry, and nothing crashes.

OK, lets resolve this for the moment. Please reopen if the problem reappears.
