What's the reason behind removing and remaking /dev/openprom?
Comment 4 MATSUU Takuto (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-09 21:00:06 UTC
no reason.;)
I copied from sys-apps/cloop.
Comment 5 Jason Wever (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-10 01:59:54 UTC
Then why is it in there?

I've attached a patch to the bug for the ebuild.

This patch does two things.

1) The piggyback64 manpage is really a pointer to piggyback. However, the
way it is setup, it doesnt work on Gentoo. So during src_install I adjusted
the ebuild to copy the debian/piggyback.1 file to debian/piggyback64.1.
Then the manpage works just fine.

2) I removed the forced creation of /dev/openprom from the bottom of the
ebuild. I put back the ewarn info with some more information as to when
you need /dev/openprom and how to make it if you don't have devs.

Basically /dev/openprom is something eeprom and probably prtconf need to
access the OpenBootProm. But without the right kernel option, these utilities
cannot work either. This kernel option is mentioned now in the ebuild, as
well as the instructions to create /dev/openprom should it not exist.

Do you have any problems with this patch being implemented?
