Coldsync is a very UNIX way to sync your Palm OS device with a desktop.  It 
supports conduits, and includes some Perl modules to help you write them, as 
well as a few to get you started.
It supports USB syncs, as well, which is nice for Handspring Visor owners.

I suggest dev-libs because that's where I found pilot-tools.
