Several versions of app-arch/alien have been released since the last ebuild update on 19 Feb 2009.  The latest is V8.79.  In my PORTDIR_OVERLAY tree, I copied alien-8.74.ebuild to alien-8.79.ebuild; it emerged without error.  Initial testing (on AMD64) shows no problems.  TIA for updating this ebuild :^)

Ebuild for app-arch/alien new version 8.79, simply copied from alien-8.74.ebuild.

added 8.86 to the tree and removed old ones. sorry for leaving this so long.. somehow I overlooked it it seems.
