Are you sure you have configured your keyboard correctly in hal ? Are you sure you've added that layout correctly to xkeyboard-config files ? For hal, I have not do any configuration modification. I have accept all changes in /usr/share/xkb/ required by installing xkeyboard-config. But I have not configure any thing relative to xkeyboard config in /etc. I have change the layout to “fr” and no variant to try “azerty”, and change only with kde config, and it is the same. My opinion is that the files for this variant are bad, it is possible that is not gentoo specific, but I don't known where report this bug.
