Description Jonathan Stafford 2003-09-29 16:50:34 UTC
When booting the gentoo kernel with no options on my IBM ThinkPad A31p, an oops
occurs while running hwsetup. Booting with "gentoo nodetect" does prevent the
problem. Running `hwsetup -n` also results in an oops. A pass of memtest turns
up nothing.

I have verified the ISO's md5sum both before and after burning, and that does
not appear to be the problem.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Burn Gentoo 1.4 LiveCD. ISO is x86-basic-1.4-20030911.iso from (I believe
ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo) with MD5SUM
08a8d385e5cf8152dd31a6bceca0951f.
2. Boot from media.

Actual Results:
Oops.

Expected Results:
No oops.

This occurs when running hwsetup by hand, but appears similar to those values I
can see after it runs as part of boot (which scrolls partially off the screen):

have you tried a newer livecd to see if this problem still occurs?
Comment 2 Brian Jackson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-12-10 08:57:18 UTC
let me know if this is still a problem
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:25:15 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
