Description

On ARM processors, current stable version 2.18 has problems with "vmov" NEON instruction: http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2008-03/msg00260.html (NEON is a SIMD unit in the latest ARM processors, similar to MMX/SSE on x86). It is causing problems when building NEON-optimized x11-libs/pixman (bug 297801) Additionally there are some minor quirks in 2.18, like spamming with bogus warnings "rdhi, rdlo and rm must all be different" when building for armv6 processors or better (older processors really had this limitation for the operands of multiplication instruction, but starting from armv6 this no longer applies). Overall, binutils 2.18 is a bit too old for modern ARM processors. Created attachment 230489 [details]
